Welcome to The House of Holland

Welcome to the world of The House of Holland — the coast of Frisia, the abbey of Egmond, the peat that slowly became land. For four centuries, from the first counts around 880 to Floris V, a single family built a county here out of dunes, water and patience. Their story is that of a country that still had to be made. Thank you for coming.

What you will find on this site:

  • The novels — every published volume in the series, in Dutch and English, with a short description, the opening chapter to read, and where to order.
  • The history — background articles on the age the novels are set in: the counts and their adversaries, the church, the draining of the peat, and for each volume an account of what the sources record and what is the author's invention.
  • The maps — the county across the centuries, for the coastline shifted, the peat sank, and land appeared where there had been water. Each book also has a map of the places its story passes through.
  • News — how the series is progressing and when the next volume appears.
